Maybe you’ve heard that the recently opened Mr. Dewie’s Cashew Creamery at Public Market is dairy-free, soy-free and gluten-free. It checks off a lot of boxes for people with certain dietary intolerances. But best of all – it accomplishes that while also being uncompromisingly delicious.
Brothers Ari and Andrew Cohen founded Mr. Dewie’s in response to the pair’s intolerance for certain ingredients. Ari and Andrew were also adamant that they wanted all ingredients in their product to be all-natural and organic, not highly processed. The result not only simulates ice cream, but, in the words of one 5-star Yelp review, the flavors are “THE BOMB.”
We caught up with Andrew Cohen who filled us in one a few “secrets” behind the successful new purveyor.
Do you have a favorite mantra that keeps you inspired?
“Like Ice cream, only better” (One of our slogans) inspires me to forge ahead and to try and change the way in which ice cream lovers look at their favorite dessert and to persuade even the most stubborn of skeptics to give Mr. Dewie’s a try so that they, too, can begin to enjoy a far healthier food choice. Not an easy task, but one day, one customer, and one scoop at a time, we work towards this end.
What’s your favorite flavor?
If I had to pick only one, I think it would be the Mocha Chip. Just in case this runs out, I would go for the Turmeric Spice or the Strawberry as my runners up.

What would you choose for your last meal on earth?
A giant plate of pasta bolognese with a glass of a bold cabernet!
