Four things to Watch for in Warriors’ New Season

Tonight, the Golden State Warriors kick off the 2016/17 season at home against the San Antonio Spurs at 7:30 PM. We’ll be watching and hope you’ll join us, viewing the screen in our north-entrance – by the Rooster!

While the 2015/16 season was ultimately disappointing for the Warriors, it was probably the team’s greatest in history. They went 73-10; Steph Curry had the best individual season ever; and the combined efforts of former Emeryville resident Draymond Green and Klay Thompson lifted the team many times to create one of the most unstoppable sporting forces in recent memory.

So, what will everyone be watching for in the Warriors this season?

Kevin Durant – the former foe, defeated by the Golden State while with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Durant shocked the sports world when he signed with the Bay Area team. He was the Warriors big ticket addition and all eyes will be on him. Follow #KDToTheBay to weigh in.

Steph Curry – It felt like a super-star descending back to earth: Steph Curry’s performance in last year’s Finals was sobering. After nursing a couple of injuries and sitting out the Olympics, the celebrity forward will be greatly motivated to bounce back this season.

What Center? – The team’s new center Zaza Pachulia, formerly of the Dallas Mavericks, is an NBA vet. At 32, the 6-11 player rejected more lucrative offers to sign onto the Warriors; he’s hoping this will finally be his shot at an NBA title.

Growth on the Bench – While the team’s shooters are top talent, the bench is full of unrealized potential. Warrior stalwarts Andre Iguodala and Shaun Livingston are strong leaders, but the team will be trusting that health issues don’t hinder the bench’s productivity. Some younger and less experienced bench players will have an opportunity to shine as they provide rest for Warriors’ golden players.

One thing you can be sure of – Public Market Emeryville is always a welcoming and delicious place to watch these Champions!
