Public Market is a popular spot for groups of cyclists to fuel up on coffee before a long ride or fill up on food after an excursion. If you’ve never done a group ride, why not give it a try? It can be empowering to ride in a squad. Plus, you’ll get acquainted with routes and views you might never have seen before.
We compiled a short list of East Bay Bike Groups. Seems there’s something for everyone who likes getting around on two-wheels.
GRIZZLY PEAK CYCLISTS
A club of about 600 members, the Grizzly Peak Cyclists is a Berkeley based group that hosts about half their rides in the East Bay and the rest are all over the San Francisco Bay Area. Their club includes novices, intermediates, advanced riders with a range of rides that involve socializing and eating as well as a full day of riding.
Dozens of upcoming rides, including Friday, September 15 at 9:45am: Starting from the Berkeley Aquatic Park playground. The group will ride to the Emeryville marina, then North on the Bay Trail for a clockwise loop to the Red Oak Victory ship, Miller-Knox Park, Ferry Point Tunnel, & lunch @ Little Louie’s. There will be an option to bypass the tunnel.
OAKLAND YELLOW JACKETS
The Yellow-jackets bicycle club is a social, multi-cultural group for men and women of all ages, skill levels and types of bicycles. They never leave anyone alone, and they focus on safety. They have four levels of riding groups to fit your needs. Rides distance is between 35-80 miles depending on the group.
The Yellow-jackets September rides include the Crockett Loop and a tour of Petaluma.
RIDE LIKE A GIRL
Affiliated with Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay, Ride Like a Girl is a group ride for women only on the first Saturday of the month. The emphasis of these rides is to have fun and to meet other women who love to ride.
