“We are proud to welcome NUSA to The Public Market Emeryville as part of our ongoing collaboration with La Cocina,” says Dustin Durham, Marketing and Leasing Specialist at Oxford Properties Group. “Our commitment to supporting emerging talent aligns perfectly with La Cocina’s mission, and we are thrilled to provide a space where entrepreneurs like Chef Huang can share their unique visions with the community.”

Despite the challenges posed to businesses post-pandemic, Chef Huang’s resilience and adaptability promoted her to pivot her business model to online retail and local pop-ups, which helped her garner a devoted following throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Now, with the opening of their space at The Public Market Emeryville, Chef Huang looks forward to continuing her culinary journey and sharing the flavors of her motherland with an even broader audience.

“NUSA’s inclusion in The Public Market Emeryville is a dream come true,” says Chef Huang. “I am grateful to embark on this new chapter to introduce the rich tapestry of Indonesian cuisine, and contribute to the diverse culinary landscape of the Bay Area by showcasing some of the most beloved Indonesian dishes and desserts.”

About NUSA:

NUSA’s mission is to offer unique, classic Indonesian desserts, snacks, and savory items, handcrafted following traditional home-style recipes. Founded in 2013 by chef and owner Jennifer Huang who grew up in South Sumatra, Indonesia, and began baking as a young girl. When her family immigrated to the Bay Area, Jennifer realized her homeland had little to no culinary presence in Northern California — even though Indonesia is one of the largest countries in the world. This inspired Jennifer to immerse herself in learning how to cook and bake with a humble intention to make her favorite childhood food and desserts for her family.

About The Public Market Emeryville:

Located at the gateway of the East Bay and San Francisco, The Public Market Emeryville, owned by Oxford Properties Group, is a vibrant food hall and community gathering place featuring nearly two dozen artisanal eateries, including Super Duper Burger, a Bay Area favorite, Pig in a Pickle, C Casa, and Minnie Bell’s Soul Movement. Through its partnership with San Francisco-based incubator, La Cocina, The Public Market Emeryville brings new culinary concepts to the neighborhood, serving as a launchpad for exciting new businesses and rising food stars. In addition to being a neighborhood dining destination, The Public Market also offers a spacious fully-stocked bar, health and fitness studios, and retail outlets including Guitar Center. Original artworks by local artists enrich the Market Hall experience, and are complemented by regular events like Trivia Tuesday and Market Beats on Second Fridays, along with pop-ups and community events. Furthering Oxford’s vision to establish The Public Market Emeryville as a dynamic, multifaceted downtown destination, the owner will be developing an all-electric life sciences tower providing cutting-edge research facilities as well as complementary infrastructure and public amenities.

About La Cocina:

La Cocina is a 501(c)3 nonprofit food business incubator that works to solve problems of equity in business ownership; inclusivity in the mainstream American marketplace; barriers to entry for women, people of color, and immigrant business owners; and the too-high cost of entry for the food industry generally.
